GIS in Action April 21-22

The PSU ASPRS Student Chapter recently attended our local GIS in Action Conference, April 21-22, 2009 in Vancouver, WA. Congratulations Scholarship Award Recipients!

Each year the PSU ASPRS Student Chapter awards students for research related to, involving and/or about geospatial technology or mapping sciences. These awards are made to support primary research activities and/or present at national conferences. Congratulations to our 2008/2009 award recipients:

  • Sarah Praskievicz. Impacts of Climate Change and Urban Development on Water Resources in the Tualatin River Basin, Oregon. Presented at the 2009 Annual Meeting of the Association of American Geographers, Las Vegas, Nevada.

  • Laura Reilly Skorczeski. Ethnic Place Making: Thirty Years of Brazilian Immigration to South Framingham, Massachusetts. Presented at the 2009 Annual Meeting of the Association of American Geographers, Las Vegas, Nevada.

  • Lindsay Skog. Sacred Landscapes: Proposed methodology for mapping beyul. Presented at the 2009 Annual Meeting of the Association of American Geographers, Las Vegas, Nevada.

  • Sarah Thompson. Predicting areas of cattle grazing to assess water quality in Eastern Oregon. Award to conduct field research, presentation at PSU pending Spring 2009.




    Clackamas River GIS Project

    The ASPRS student chapter has collaborated with CORIBA, the PSU Geology Student Organization, on a volunteer project for the non-profit Clackamas River Basin Council that involves mapping the watershed for riparian health studies. The project revolves around weekly "work parties." Details on project continuation are pending. Thanks to everyone for getting involved thus far!
