Membership Information

Join PSU ASPRS

You can join ASPRS at any time. Please fill the membership application form and submit the form with a $10 check (make check payable to CRR ASPRS) and a photocopy of your PSU student ID to Geography department ASPRS mailbox or to any PSU ASPRS officer. You can download the application form here.

As a member you are eligible to apply for the following scholarships, including:

  • 2008 GIS in Action Conference Scholarship
  • PSU ASPRS Conference Scholarship
  • PSU ASPRS GIS/Remote Sensing Data/Software Scholarship

2008 GIS in Action Conference Scholarship

This scholarship is to support members attending the annual local GIS conference, GIS in Action. This year the conference will be held in conjunction with the ASPRS Annual Conference on April 28 - May 2, 2008.

Amount: Up to $50 depending on the number of applicants

Deadline: TBA

Qualification: PSU ASPRS active student member

Responsibilities: Assist PSU Geography and/or Columbia River Region ASPRS exhibition booths on the days of the conference.

To apply: Email a letter of intent to the president of PSU ASPRS, Jamie Ludwig (jamieludwig@hotmail.com), and the faculty adviser, David Banis (dbanis@pdx.edu), with your name, student ID number, department, and phone number.

 

 

PSU ASPRS Conference Scholarship

This scholarship is to support members attending and presenting in a conference.

Amount: Up to $750. The final awarded amount will be determined by the PSU ASPRS Board depending on the amount available.

Deadline: Two weeks before the conference. No retroactive application will be accepted.

Qualification:

  1. PSU ASPRS active member
  2. Must be a presenter in topics related to GIS, Remote Sensing, or Photogrammetry

Responsibilities:

  1. Acknowledge PSU ASPRS' support in presentation
  2. Fail to present in the conference will be disqualified for the scholarship

To apply: Send a one-page proposal to the president of PSU ASPRS, Jamie Ludwig (jamieludwig@hotmail.com), and the faculty adviser, David Banis(dbanis@pdx.edu), with the following information:

  1. Title of presentation, including an abstract
  2. Presentation schedule (or preliminary program)
  3. Conference information (name and location)
  4. Amount requesting to receive
  5. Proposed expenses
    a. Conference Fees
    b. Travel and accommodation expenses
    c. Other sources of funding and amount

 

 

PSU ASPRS GIS/Remote Sensing Data/Software Scholarship

This scholarship is to support members purchasing digital data or computer software for conducting geographic research.

Amount: Up to $600. The final awarded amount will be determined by the PSU ASPRS Board depending on the amount available. It is the students’ responsibility to cover the remaining costs if the total amount requested is not awarded.

Deadline: May 15, 2008.

Qualification:

  1. PSU ASPRS active member
  2. Data/software must be related to Remote Sensing, GIS, or Geography
  3. Must have an endorsement from a PSU faculty

Responsibilities:

  1. Acknowledge PSU ASPRS' support in research reports/publications
  2. Give a formal presentation in PSU ASPRS colloquium on what was gained from data or software, within two terms of acquisition or prior to graduation (which ever comes first)
  3. The data/software purchased will be the property of PSU ASPRS, and will be stored on the I drive (or other public place) or installed on the computers in Geography Labs for future students

To apply: Send a one-page proposal to the president of PSU ASPRS, Jamie Ludwig (jamieludwig@hotmail.com), and the faculty adviser, David Banis (dbanis@pdx.edu), with the following information:

  1. A brief summary of project, expected results, and intended use of the data/software
  2. A reference letter from the faculty who will supervise the research
  3. Quotes of the data/software
  4. Purchase information (e.g., dealer's contact information)
